Today we went to river Zrmanja for swimming. We went there with the whole family that is currently together with us at our place in Croatia. At the old iron bridge that crosses the Zrmanja is a nice place for swimming. There are trees for having shadow, a restaurant and a small bar. We visit this place regularly. Everyone enjoyed taking a swim in the cold mountain river. Only the family members with japanese blood seemed to prefer a mich higher water temperature. In the afternoon we went off for a small hike along the river banks until we came to a small bridge. This bridge was blocked by a donkey. Sachiko intended to pet that donkey. However the donkey rather preferred to shoo Sachiko. Sachiko was a little bit scared and ran away from. The donkey followed her. It was a hilarious sight and Sachiko’s father-in-law had to stop the donkey by hitting it on the nose. Dinner we drove to the „Ethno-Village“ in Obrovac.

Kudin most

Today we drove to the Krupa canyons in the Velebit mountains. We took an unpaved offroad from Muškovci to the remote village of Golubić. There is a goat path in this village leading to a place called Kudin most which translates into bridge of Kuda. The path descends from the hills down into the canyon and to the banks of river Krupa. The path grants some truly stunning views over the canyon. After the first kilometer one can spot a plac called „Deveterci“. Devet translates into the number „9“ from Croatian. The Deveterci are nine small cascades. Travelling further along the path we finally spotted Kudin most.
Legend has it that Kudin most was build by Kuda. He was a young man from Kaštel Zegarski, a village south of river Krupa. One day he fell in love with a girl from the village of Golubić, north of river Krupa. He gathered a wedding party and built with that party the twelve littles arches as a bridge, nowadays called Kudin most, over the river. When the party arrived at the other river bank. Kuda and the girl got married.
We also explored the meadow below the waterfall after Kudin most. We searched for a different path for our ascension back to the top of the canyon. Unfortunately for us, it had been raining a lot the days before. Both of the different paths have been either flooded or blocked by rubble. So we took the same path back we chose for the descension. As we arrived back at our car, we stopped at a goatherders farm and bought some cheese from this area.

On our journey back we came by an orthodox monastery. We stopped to search within this area for one of the springs of river Krupa. We did not know which path to follow and so we chose a wrong one. Although we did not made it to one of the springs of the river we enjoyed our second hike along the river banks. We will definitely come again for more hiking in this area. We want to see the spring of the river, visit the monastery and ascend in the Krnjeza canyon – This will be much fun when we come back to Craotia for vacation next time.
